The Drill: Tennis Ball Hip-Hinge Stride

🎯 Objective: Teach pitchers how to load power into the back hip (hip hinge) and maintain a straight, explosive stride toward the target without losing posture or breaking mechanics.

How to Perform the Drill

  1. Set Up: Place a tennis ball in the crease of the back leg’s hip joint (the hip fold of the stance/pivot leg).
  2. Engage the Hinge: Hinge at the waist by pushing the hips slightly backward, clamping the tennis ball securely in the hip fold. Keep the upper body uprightβ€”do not bend excessively at the chest.
  3. Execute the Stride: Take a stride forward toward the target while keeping the ball clamped in place for as long as possible.
